It wasn’t about the strikeouts Tuesday night for Addie Baker and the South Adams Starfires. It was about limiting damage and keeping Woodlan off the base paths as they limited the Warriors to just six hits on their way to a pivotal, 15-6 win go get coach Jessie O’Dell back into the title race in the ACAC.
Baker struck out just two, one of her lowest totals of the year, but she walked just one and allowed only six hits against a potent Woodlan offense.
The Warriors had all the momentum early, building a 4-0 lead, but Baker stranded a runner in scoring position in the third and then shut down Woodlan in the fourth, giving the Starfire bats time to warm up to starter Kaycie Reed – and that’s exactly what they did.

The freshman Reed could not escape the fourth inning when Baker led off the frame with a base hit and South Adams scored nine times to seize control of the game. The Starfires pounded out hit after hit and by the time Baker game back up in the fourth, Baker was able to drive in another run with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-4.
Baker drove in another run with a double in the sixth, then scored on Reagan Beitler’s second home run of the season.

Beitler, Bekah Patterson and Reagan Bollenbacher each had three hits for the Stars in the win. South Adams now holds out hope that Woodlan will knock off Heritage next week to create a three-way tie in the conference. They’ll finish up their conference slate Thursday at Adams Central.
