The yellow ribbons for veterans are returning to Decatur.
Gary Edwards and Karen Fageol, representing the American Legion Riders of Adams Post 43 in Decatur, attended the latest meeting of city council to ask for permission to place the ribbons in various areas of the city.

Permission was, of course, quick and unanimous.
Edwards said the yellow ribbons will be tied to posts, trees, light poles, etc. Included will be the Macklin and Jackson St. bridges in downtown.
The ribbons will be going up this Saturday – and be in place for Nov. 11 Veterans’ Day – then be taken down on the last Saturday of the month.
“We have talked to veterans who really appreciate them,” Fageol noted.
The traditional yellow ribbon is a symbol of support and is tied to trees and elsewhere, signifying hope for a loved one’s safe return from duty.
The tradition dates back centuries, with widespread popularity in the early 1990s during the Gulf War.
