Calls handled by the Decatur Police Department in March showed a significant increase over the previous month, according to the department’s monthly report.
The department responded to 1,003 calls in March, an increase of 235 calls over the previous month.
Traffic enforcement and building checks represented the two largest hikes.

The calls include a mix of emergency and non-emergency responses including, but not limited to, traffic stops, traffic-related
criminal offenses, vehicle accidents, and a variety of other traffic-related concerns.
Also included are property crimes, crimes against a person(s), and long-term investigations, as well as non-criminal issues such as VIN (vehicle inspection numbe) checks, civil disputes, animal complaints, vehicle unlocks, and neighbor complaints.
During the first three months of the year, the department has received 2,577 calls for service, an average of 859 calls per month.
