Overdose Awareness Day will be held on the Madison St. Plaza in downtown Decatur next Monday.
“August 31 (Monday) is a day for Decatur to stand together and say we remember those we have lost,” Trisha Gonzalez told city council at its latest meeting.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“A day of community. A day of hope. Because every life matters,” says information explaining the event.
“We want people to come to the plaza to seek out resources,” Gonzalez said, noting that several help groups will be on hand.
Purple ribbons to be placed around the city are a sign of love, remembrance and hope, it was noted.
A Walk to Remember and Hope will be held Saturday from 5-6 p.m., beginning and ending at Grace First Community Church, 601 S. 13th St.
A candle/lantern virgil will be held.
Those participating are asked to wear purple and bring a candle or lantern to remember “those we have lost” and “for those still fighting.”
