The City of Decatur is joining other entities in Adams County in providing support to a Berne-based addiction recovery effort.
Launched last December, Crossroads Community of Adams County says it is “a faith-based nonprofit organization with a mission to provide recovery housing and services for those struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues in Adams County. Our program is based on structure and accountability which leads to physical, financial, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing.”
Decatur City Council has voted to turn over to Crossroads the approximate $20,000 settlement it is receiving over the next 16 years as part of a national opioid settlement negotiated by the federal government.

The Adams County Commissioners in March agreed to turn over to Crossroad the $75,000 the county is receiving from the settlement.
Rene LeBlanc is the founder and executive director of Crossroads, and he approached Decatur officials about funds.
He gave Mayor Dan Rickord details of how the money will be used and said he would be glad to provide such information to council.
Council, however, moved at its last meeting to direct its opioid settlement funds to Crossroads with one stipulation: that the organization make an annual request for the funds.
LeBlanc is a certified peer recovery instructor who had operated a similar program in Louisiana before moving to Berne.
Crossroads Community, affiliated with Crossroads Community church in Berne, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, with afternoons used for appointments.
