Brooklyn Green registered a birdie on the first hole of the Front Nine at Wabash Valley Tuesday and eventually took medalist honors as the South Adams Starfires beat ACAC rival Heritage by 29 points for a conference victory.
Green circled a three on the par-four No. 1 and finished with the best score on the Front Nine in her career as a varsity player for coach Chris Toledo.
The Starfires also had a good night from Londyn Smith, who was the only other player in the match to break 50. Smith played seven of the holes well for a combined +5 scores, with the two bad holes leading her to an uncharacteristic 49 on a course where she’s often challenging 40.
The top scorer for Heritage was from Morgan Comment, who shot 53. She made par on No. 7 and also had three bogeys to lead the Patriots.
South Adams will be involved in the Bi-County tournament this Saturday at Timber Ridge. The match scheduled for Wednesday against Eastbrook has been pushed back to Monday. The Starfires will also play at Portland Country Club at Jay County on Thursday as a final tune-up for the Bi-County event.
