Friday’s championship match at the Bluffton tennis sectional will feature what always figured to be the top two teams in the five-team field – Norwell and Adams Central.

The Jets wrapped up their spot in the championship with a 4-1 defeat of South Adams, dropping only the No. 2 singles match.
Ava Kinsey’s junior season came to an end with a 7-5, 6-1 win for the Stars, leaving her with a 12-5 record. Kinsey will likely be the new No. 1 next year after Chloe Summersett graduates in a few weeks. Summersett finished her senior season with a 9-9 record.

Kinsey’s win was especially impressive considering the 6-1, 6-1 loss she suffered to Melanie Bertsch in Berne in April.
Each team boasted four seniors in the seven-man lineup.
Hillary Tobias, AC’s No. 1, had little trouble with Summersett with a very similar scoreline to the meeting earlier in the season.

Macy McClure needed a long, third-set tiebreak to dispatch Abby Claghorn, winning 14-12.

The two Jet wins in doubles play came expectedly in straight sets.

Along with expecting a tough victory for Hillary Tobias at No. 1 singles against Norwell Friday, the Jets will rest their sectional title hopes on a pair of victories at doubles, where the two AC teams have swapped places since they played Norwell back in mid-April.

A win by Tobias Friday would continue her season, regardless of whether or not the Jets win as a team.
Play will begin Friday at 4:30 p.m.
