Eleven area boys teams competed in the Heritage Relays Friday night and New Haven came away with a convincing victory in the team race. Heritage, Bellmont and Adams Central all competed in the event from Z Land.
Heritage will compete again at home on Tuesday against Jay County, while Bellmont will travel to Columbia City and AC will compete in another ACAC Tri at Bluffton with Woodlan.
Notes & Results:
-Conditions were not ideal for the sprinters on Friday night with cold temperatures and a breeze. Defending sectional champion Davyion Clark won with a time of just 11.43.
-Hayden Amstein of Heritage cut six seconds from his season best in the mile and surpassed his career best to finish just outside the points in eighth.
-Heritage’s 4×100 team of Landon Hicks, Cooper Naatz, Greyson Mullins and Braden Walter finished in fifth with a season-best time of 46.19.
-Will Kintz’s anchor leg in the 4×100 for Bellmont gave the Braves their best time of the year in that event (48.07). Parker Frietas ran the opening leg, with Evan Sovine and Jackson Hicks on the far side of the track for the relay.
-The Patriots also set a season best in their 4×400 effort. Geremew Gerber ran the opening leg and was followed by Mullins and Naatz, with Marshall Harris running the anchor. They now have the best time of any team in Z Land this year.
-Will Kintz also ran the anchor in the 4×400 for Bellmont and helped that team run a season best. Along with Evan Sovine, Kintz was joined by Harry Gunsett and Maddux Miller.
-Braden Walter (Heritage) equalled his season best and took third place in the high jump individually, but he and teammate Davian Bates won the team competition and the team points. Bates also went 5-06.
-Ian Hale had a great performance for the home team, clearing 8-06 in the pole vault to finish in third place in the partner competition with Dominic Ferguson, who also cleared the same height.
-Despite not having a place to train and practice due to the renovations at Worthman Stadium this spring, Bellmont’s Jack Riehm had his best vault in two years and cleared 7-06 for his first height of the year.
-Jackson Hicks’ PR prior to Friday night was just over 16 feet for the Braves. He exceeded 18 feet in all four attempts and his best jump (18-05.25) was good enough for six points. It was also easily the best jump the Braves have seen in the past two seasons.
-Hudson Krull teamed up with Hicks and also set a PR, going just beyond 17 feet and earning team points for Bellmont.
-Adams Central’s Ean Brown set a new PR in the shot, finishing ninth individually with a toss of 42-01.25. Teammate Carter Beaver also set his mark at 32-02.75.
-The individual discus race was extremely close, with Luers’ Caiden Gerardot spoiling the Patriots’ night, but they still won the team race easily, with Teichman and Riddle combining for over 270 feet. Logan Teichman’s toss was the first time he had ever reached 140 feet.
