The Decatur VFW’s new post will be the site this Friday of judging of the state VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest.
Art from throughout Indiana is entered in the contest which offers $37 million in scholarships, according to Adam Eguia, president of the local auxiliary and of the VFW’s Fourth District.
Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and judging will begin at 6:30 at the post, 327 N. Second St., formerly the home of the Decatur Elks.
The event is open to the public; there will be no admission charge.
Judging the contest will be Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord, Adams Superior Court Judge Sam Conrad, and Tracy Manley, a member of the Decatur auxiliary.

The winning art will be sent to the VFW auxiliary’s national headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.
Winners from each state will go to the nationals to compete for the $37,000 in scholarships.
High school students, grades 9 through 12, are entered in the contest.
More than 4,000 students across the U.S. were expected to participate in the event which began in 1979.
