The City of Decatur, through its board of works and safety, has approved another term of an inter-local agreement with Adams County for animal care and control.
But it’s rather obvious that Mayor Dan Rickord isn’t too happy about the arrangement.
“There has been some complaints about the way things are done,” he said when the subject arose at the recent city council meeting.

The mayor said he has talked to other communities about how they handle the situation. “After this contract (renewal) we need to take a look at how things are done,” he said.
He supported signing up for a new two years of the agreement, since the the renewal has been up in the air since the first of the year. But, he pointed out, the city can opt out at any time after a 30-day notice.
The agreement costs the city $10,000 annually.
PAWS of Adams County, a local animal welfare group, “do a heckuva job helping us, they help us a ton,” Rickord exclaimed.
“They are a blessing for us, for the county,” board member Craig Coshow added.
Rickord noted that he has been talking with the PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) group, seeking ideas about a possible new setup for animal control.
