A couple of loose bolts have solved what loomed as a possible costly repair or replace project for the City of Decatur.
At an early April board of works meeting, Fire Chief Jeff Sheets informed the board of a problem with a transfer switch on a generator behind the fire station was not working.
Sheets said he was bringing in someone to determine what needed to be done. If replacements were needed, the costs could range from $9,300 to over $16,000m, he said.
Well, Sheets delivered the good news at the latest board meeting: two loose bolts were found, tightened, “and it’s working fine!”
HOT STUFF: Overheated coils in air conditioning units at the wastewater treatment plant on Monmouth Road need replacing as soon as possible, Infrastructure Manager Josh Zimmerman told the board.
He said the coils were in danger of burning up.
Zimmerman received a quote from Don Myers Plumbing, Electric and Air Conditioning in Berne which would replace the coils at a cost of $10,531.79. That includes placing a special coating on the coils.
Zimmerman said he would use some fans to keep down the temperature in the room.
The board agreed to the expenditure.
