Bellmont staged a late comeback in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday against Wayne, but fell one run short, dropping the opener 5-4 before coming back to win game two, 6-5.
The game got off to a weird start after the Bellmont coaching staff made a lineup snafu due to confusion with the doubleheader and the rain.
The home team trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but base hits by Aidan Zimmerman and Layne LeMaster put runners at the corners for Will Baker, who reached on an error that resulted in both runners scoring.
An RBI single by Gavin Krull and a sacrifice fly by Andrew James brought the game to one run, but the Braves stranded Jack Scheumann, who singled with two outs and the bases empty, and the Generals claimed the opener.
In game two, the Braves again found themselves down 5-4, but this time it was in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Andrew James singled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, then stole second ahead of a double by Jack Scheumann, tying the game.
Beau Baker knocked in the winning run, scoring Scheumann and reaching on a sixth and final error by the Generals.
Layne LeMaster pitched the first seven innings, striking out seven and allowing five runs (three earned)
Jack Scheumann got three outs in the eighth after allowing an inherited runner to score. He was credited with the W.
The win was just the second of the season for the Braves, who will travel to North Side Monday night.
