The Parkway Panthers got a heavy dose of Owen Wanner Friday night and were unable to solve his riddle, striking out 11 times and falling 5-2 in an interstate matchup in Rockford.
Wanner threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits, before running into a bit of trouble in the seventh, but the Starfire’s 5-0 lead was plenty of cushion for Jax Wanner when he entered in relief of Owen to get the last two outs.
Owen knocked in Jax for the game’s first run in the third and Jax walked again in the third to load the bases for Derek McKean, who knocked in two runs with a single.
The Panthers then walked Owen Wanner, but Luke Bauman made them pay with an RBI single to push the Stars’ lead to 4-0.
Owen Wanner doubled in the Stars’ fifth and final run in the top of the seventh, scoring pinch runner Brain McKinley.
The Stars are now 6-5 heading into a week where they will play important ACAC games against Jay County and Southern Wells.
