Wednesday’s contest between Bellmont and Columbia City was all about Brady Schroeder. The Huntington-bound pitcher shut out the home Braves on just two hits and struck out nine as the Eagles needed just six innings to dispatch their NE8 foes.
Bellmont head coach Aaron Baker saw his team go down 5-0 before picking up the first hit in the fourth. Delsyn Lee singled after Keagan Martin reached on an error, but the Bellmont rally ended when Columbia City got the lead runner at third base and the Braves couldn’t knock in a run.
Aidan Zimmerman got the start for Bellmont and left the game in the sixth inning, trailing 5-0. Will Baker came on in relief with the bases loaded and allowed all three inherited runners to score. Zimmerman struck out six in his 5.1 innings of work.
Baker took advantage of his one plate appearance, picking up the second hit of the game for the home team with a single to center with two outs in the sixth.
The Eagles are now tops in the NE8 conference with their second win of the campaign.
The Braves face the NE8 team with the most wins this season (Norwell) Thursday evening on the road.
