A four-run rally in the sixth inning turned a masterful performance by Owen Wanner into a 5-1 victory for the South Adams Starfires Wednesday night in Woodburn.
Owen struck out 13 batters and allowed just three hits, but his most impressive inning came after his team put four runs across in the sixth. Wanner came to the mound knowing it was likely his last inning and struck out the side on just 11 pitches, with ten of them being strikes to finish off his night.
Jax Wanner pitched the bottom of the seventh and worked around a couple of defensive miscues for a clean, scoreless inning.
The key play in that big rally for South Adams was an infield error by the Warriors that could have been a double play ball. Instead, Manny Juarez broke a 1-1 tie and scored and the Starfires had runners at the corners with just one out.
Brendon Sprunger followed with an RBI hit and Derek McKean reached on another error by Woodlan that led to two runs and the final 5-1 scoreline.
Juarez and Derek Weaver each had two hits in the middle of the Starfire lineup and McKean led the team from the leadoff spot with the two RBI.
The Warriors remain winless in the ACAC with Southern Wells still to play, while the Starfires sit at 2-3 in fifth place in the conference with a game against co-leader Heritage yet to play on Monday.
