What was shaping up to be a third consecutive weather-marred Decatur Chamber concert turned out to be one of the two biggest rock nights of the season Thursday.
Sunglasses at Night, a Fort Wayne band making its second appearance on the Madison St. Plaza, lit up the place as only the Journey tribute band has done this season – or maybe any other season.
A huge crowd turned out despite a rain threat and the dance area in front of the stage was crowded and hyper through much of the two-plus hours of mostly ’80s music.

The six-person band – with lead vocalists Bill Herrington and Vickie Harter – got a late start due to the weather.
Rain began falling around 5 p.m. and it was like “here we go again.” The concert two weeks earlier had been postponed (and rescheduled) by pending rain and the previous show was halted by rain after only 40 minutes.

Thursday night, however, Mother Nature decided enough was enough, shut down the wet stuff and brought out fine conditions: clear skies and temperatures in the mid-70s.
The rain forced a late start of about 45 minutes for opening act Savannah Zimmerman, local singer and guitarist. But once the sunglasses went on it was loud rockin’ and boppin’ – all the way to 9:30!

The band performs frequently in the Fort Wayne and northwest Ohio areas.
Earlier this month, Sunglasses was in Angola, Huntertown, Albany and Markle before coming to Decatur. On August 29 they will play the Country Heritage Winery in Laotto.
BULLDOGS NEXT: The 13th and final concert on this year’s original lineup will be held next Thursday at 7, featuring The Bulldogs.
Two weeks later, on Thursday, Sept. 10, Derek Jones & 50 South will perform; that concert was halted on August 7 by pending bad weather.
In between, Adams Memorial Hospital will hold its annual Senior Living Event on Thursday, Sept. 3, featuring the Sweetwater All-Stars.
The Chamber’s annual Motorsports Festival will be held next Thursday, preceding The Bulldogs.
