“I am very excited to serve the city and the department in this new role,” said Derek Loshe after being promoted to deputy chief of the Decatur Police Department.
Loshe replaces veteran police officer Chris Brite, who retired after more than 32 years of service with the department.

Police Chief Kevin Gerber called Brite “one of the most loyal, dedicated men I know. This community will never know the sacrifices he’s made to keep this community safe.”
Loshe has been with the city PD for 14 years and has moved up the ranks.
After five years as a sergeant, he became a lieutenant in December of 2024, at that time assuming many of the duties of longtime officer Mark Cook, who had retired earlier in the year.
Before joining the department in Decatur, Loshe worked at the Allen County Jail.
Born and raised in Decatur, Loshe is a 2002 graduate of Bellmont School.
Derek and his wife, Marjorie, as the parents of a daughter, Reese, and three sons: Canaan, Blake and Jaxson.

His parents are Cheryl and Bill Bosch; his father, Richard Loshe, is deceased.
FULL STRENGTH: The department is currently at full strength: 20 officers, Chief Kevin Gerber and Deputy Chief Loshe.
The newest hire, Officer Kevin Newman, was brought on board several weeks ago to begin local training in order to fill the gap left by Brite’s retirement.
Newman will join the training program at the state’s police academy in Plainfield in the September through December session.
