The Decatur swimming pool is open again following the plugging of some leaks.
The city pool was closed in mid-June due to mounting issues with leaks.
Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber said today that one major leak was repaired in the pump house.
“We then had American Leak Detection come out and (they) fixed a few minor leaks. After spending time in the diving well, he (a company representative) swam up under the lane lines and found a hole through the concrete.”

In a meeting of the park board Tuesday night, many solutions were presented, Gerber said. The board decided to epoxy the hole in order to keep the pool in operation through the rest of the season.
“We will be able to stay open as the repairs are made,” Gerber explained.
“We are very thankful to have worked with multiple city departments to find the issue and resolve it.”
Several residents turned out for Tuesday’s park board meeting and presented numerous views.
“We want to thank the citizens of Decatur who attended the meeting, Gerber said. “It was great to hear their opinions and help us work towards a solution. We look forward to the remainder of this pool season.”
In May, it was discovered that the 100-year-old pool was losing a foot of water every 24 hours.
