When one team outhits another 12-5, the fate of the game is pretty much sealed. That was not the case Monday night in Berne where Monroe Central had 12 hits, but also committed five errors in an 8-6 loss to the host Starfires.
Derek Weaver pitched through a couple of tough innings early in the game to get the game into the later innings for Jax Wanner, who threw three innings of scoreless relief and earned a save.

Eight of the Bears’ twelve hits came in the first two innings as they built a 5-0 lead against Weaver, but the Stars did not give up and Weaver worked a walk to lead off the bottom of the second, allowing his courtesy runner to score the team’s first run later in the inning.
A double play turned by Owen Wanner in the third inning sparked a big third inning for the Stars, especially after Wanner was plunked to lead off the frame. RBI singles by Manny Juarez and Weaver set up South Adams to attempt to steal a run on a double steal and they did so successfully, cutting the lead for Monroe Central down to 5-3.

A bit of small ball after a leadoff single led to a sac fly by Monroe Central in the fourth, but it was the final tally for them in the game.
It all fell apart for the Golden Bears in the fourth inning. Three walks, a hit batsmen, four errors and a bunt single led to the Starfires scoring five times on just one hit.
Jax Wanner shut down the Bears the rest of the way, striking out three of the eleven batters he faced.
