Decatur and Adams County officials are continuing to stress the dangers of people attempting to drive through high water.
Decatur Fire Chief Jeff Sheets told city council on April 16 that his department, which handles water rescues, recently had to pull five people, including an infant, out of a vehicle which stalled in high water on County Road 225N.
“Please, if you see high water, don’t try driving through it,” Sheets said.
A day earlier, at a meeting of the Adams County commissioners, Paul Zerby, assistant highway superintendent, said, “The amount of water rescues has been ridiculous.”
A recent heavy amount of rainfall has brought flooding conditions to several areas in the county and more rain is in the forecast.
“If there’s high water on a road, “just turn around. It’s an inconvenience, but it could be worse,” Zerby said.
Barricades are out in numerous locations, but some people choose to drive around them.
