A west central Indiana farmer says recent warmer weather has helped accelerate crop development.
Tyler Everett tells Brownfield, “With the cold end of April and May we had, it’s really helped the corn and soybeans really take off and start to grow.”
But, he tells Brownfield rainfall continues to impact fungicide timing.
“It really spread out our corn planting,” he says. “When we go to make our fungicide passes here, we have to make sure that we are spraying accordingly when things need it and not putting it on too early or too late.”
According to the latest USDA crop progress and conditions report, Indiana corn is 53 percent silking, 4 percent in the dough stage, and rated 64 percent good to excellent. Soybeans are 55 percent blooming, 24 percent setting pods, and rated 63 percent good to excellent. Winter wheat is 95 percent harvested.
