Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) is pleased to announce that the Get Sober Stay Sober was awarded a grant recently for their 4th Annual We do Recover Event, which took place at the Adams County 4-H Fairgrounds recently. The We Do Recover event celebrated recovery by having musicians and speakers from around the country perform and speak to attendees about what recovery looks like and that it is possible with hard work. In addition to having musicians and speakers, tables were up to with information on recovery centers to sober living homes as well as independent merchandise sales. These events help break the stigma around addiction and educate people who have never been addicted to drugs or alcohol.
RJ Pitman, Founder of Get Sober Stay Sober and grant writer, expressed appreciation to the ACCF for this support for the event. RJ noted, “The Get Sober Stay Sober had an attendance of approximately 2,100 people. Two people went to treatment within the first hour and one person went into mental health treatment after the event.”
Louise Ray, ACCF President and grants committee member reported that the ACCF is very supportive of these events and programs.Â
This ACCF grant was made possible through unrestricted fund sponsored by the Jim and Ruth Price and the Robert Eugene & Sandra Butcher Community Enrichment funds.
Jim and Ruth Price had been members of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur for 70+ years. They served as ushers and greeters, and volunteered with the various ministries of the church. Jim graduated from Pleasant Mills HS. He helped his father on their farm with milking dairy cows and working in the field. He was the owner and operator of Price Ag for 50+ years and nearing retirement he worked part-time with Ebbert seeds.  Ruth was a graduate of Decatur HS. While she worked as a homemaker, Ruth also volunteered her time at Adams Memorial Hospital and enjoyed reading. This fund was established to honor the legacy of the Price family and their many contributions to our community.
This ACCF grant was also made possible through an unrestricted fund sponsored by the Robert Eugene & Sandra Butcher Community Enrichment Fund. The Fund represents and remembers Gene and Susie Butcher and their family. Married nearly 55 years, Gene and Susie had five children: Eugene, Verlin, Karen, Nancy, and Melissa. They had a sincere appreciation for the community that helped raise their family and wished to provide an annual tribute to this community.
