Entering Friday night’s championship round, the Adams Central Jets could count all their losses on one hand as they wrapped up the conference title before the whistle blew in the placement round. Coach Tony Currie’s team couldn’t have wrestled much better on their way to 287 points and another conference crown.

While they didn’t necessarily have a great round in the finals, much of that can be attributed to outwrestling their draws and popping a few extra wrestlers in the championship bouts. Adams Central lost five of their first six first-place matches, with Brason Schortgen pinning AJ Heskett in the third period at 132 for the title, but the team bounced back in the upper weights, winning four more titles to outscore Jay County by more than 50 points.
Team Scores: Adams Central 287, Jay County 234.5, South Adams 214, Bluffton 191, Heritage 105, Woodlan 95, Southern Wells 84
106 pounds
1. Griffin Byrum-JC, 2. Myles Kaehr-AC, 3. Titus Loshe-SA

Kaehr scored another fall over Loshe in the semifinal, but Byrum was the class of this weight, winning by fall in just 1:25 in the final.

113 pounds
1. Levi Johns-Blf, 2. Kale Beer-AC, 3. Sylas Wenk-JC, 4. Daniel Rupp-SA

There was no beating Johns on Friday night, but Kale Beer handled Daniel Rupp in the semifinal with a 10-0 win. Rupp scored a fall in the consolation to score some points, though, for the Stars.

120 pounds
1. Dakota Sprunger-SA, 2. Jackson Bingham-AC, 3. Jed Logan-Blf

Sprunger struggled a bit in the semifinal against Cooper Glassford of Jay County, but his riding abilities were on full display in a 6-2 win. It was no different in the final, with Sprunger beating Bingham from on top instead of from his feet. He scored nearfall in two different situations and won with a fall late in the third period.
126 pounds
1. Cody Rowles-JC, 2. Dylan Ogg-AC, 3. Will Patterson-SA

Rowles dominated this weight class, but the best match was in the bottom half of the bracket in the semifinals. Dylan Ogg upset Will Patterson 7-5 with a late takedown to reach the finals.
132 pounds
1. Brason Schortgen-AC, 2. AJ Heskett-JC, 3. Shaiden Snyder-W, 4. Max Mirelez-H, 6. Braxton Kirchner-SA
-Schortgen just has not been touched by anyone in this field and he will be a favorite to win the sectional title next week. He won the conference title with two falls.

Max Mirelez beat Shaiden Snyder in the opening round, but the two ended up meeting again in the third-place match, with Snyder scoring a revenge win for the Warriors. Braxton Kirchner was pinned by Mirelez in the consolation semifinals.
138 pounds
1. Tony Wood-JC, 2. Mav Dubach-AC, 3. Andrew Mirelez-H, 5. Wyatt Mann-SA
Tony Wood showed why he is the favorite to win semi-state this season with a 15-0 rhomp of Dubach in the finals. Mav wrestled a controlled and solid match to upset the #2 seed Mirelez in the semifinals, though.

Mirelez won a close match with Jarin Frauhiger of Southern Wells by fall at the end of the second period.
Wyatt Mann had to settle for fifth at a very strong weight.
144 pounds
1. Colt Bollenbacher-SA, 2. Jacob Robinson-JC, 3. Xander Schwartz-AC, 5. Dominick Ferguson-H

The championship bout between Bollenbacher and Robinson was 3-0 until Colt scored nearfall in the final minute to win a 6-0 decision. Xander Schwartz won three matches by fall to take third for AC.
150 pounds
1. Max Byerly-AC, 2. Nathan Plattner-SA, 3. Pierceton Morgan-Blf, 4. Preston Moore-H

One of the most exciting matches of the night came in the final at 150. Plattner scored a takedown with about fifteen seconds remaining to tie the score, but Byerly escaped with two seconds left to capture the title.
157 pounds
1. Isaiah Meyer-SA, 2. Brody Lewis-Blf, 3. Jaret Smith-AC
Meyer totaled just 82 seconds of mat time to win a title at 157. Brody Lewis eeked out a 7-6 win over Jaret Smith in the semifinal. Jaret won three matches on the night and took third place.
165 pounds
1. Matt Heiser-AC, 2. Wes Summersett-SA, 3. Chris Kramer-Blf

There was a bit of animosity between Summersett and Heiser on display in the finals at 165 after Summersett pinned the AC junior in the dual meet in December. Heiser had no intention of losing this time around, pinning Summersett in the second period and showing plenty of emotion in his celebration. The two could meet again next week at sectional.
175 pounds
1. Jack Culler-W, 2. Joaquin Flores-JC, 3. Max Kaehr-AC, 4. Cjay Barnett-H, 5. Luke Bauman-SA
Culler was the #1 seed and took the title with two close decisions, including a 7-6 win over Max Kaehr in the semifinal. Kaehr led 6-4 after two periods by Culler did just enough to get the win.
In the other semifinal, Barnett led 4-1 after two periods but was thrown to his back by Flores and eventually pinned.
Kaehr needed a takedown with 25 seconds left in the third-place match to beat Barnett 3-2.
190 pounds
1. Trevor Currie-AC, 2. Bryce Wenk-JC, 3. Tavin Frees-Blf, 4. AJ Thompson-SA

Currie took Wenk down in the most anticipated match of the night in the first period, but Wenk scored two in the third period to take the lead. Currie won the bout with a reversal on a nice switch with 45 seconds left to hold on for a 5-4 victory.
215 pounds
1. Keegan Bluhm-AC, 2. Lukas Gehrett-Blf, 3. Alan Ortiz-JC, 4. Bryan Roll-SA

Bluhm was the class of this division with a pair of falls. Bryan Roll scored two falls and took fourth for the Starfires.
285 pounds
1. Juan Cruz-Blf, 2. Zac Wurm-AC, 3. Logan Teichman-H, 4. Conner Specht-JC, 5. Peyton Long-SW, 6. Phoenix Boxell-SA

This one was highly anticipated and it lived up to the hype. Cruz and Wurm pushed and pulled for most of the match, with Cruz scoring the only point in the first two periods with an escape. Adams Central decided they wanted nothing to do with the bottom position and chose neutral despite trailing 1-0 heading into the third period. Wurm conceded a late takedown out of desperation and lost 3-0.
Logan Teichman had perhaps the performance of the tournament with big wins over Peyton Long by fall in the consolation semis and over Conner Specht for third place by fall. Specht had pinned Teichman in the opening round.
Heritage and Woodlan will compete at the New Haven sectional next week, while the rest of the ACAC will compete at the Jay County sectional.
