Having already reached the 1000 mark in digs, Macy Pries doubled up Tuesday night, picking up her 1000th kill in her final attempt Tuesday as the South Adams Starfires easily dispatched Union City, 25-9, 25-15, 25-10.
After a big night in a marathon match at Snider Monday, Pries required just 12 kills in the StarDome to reach the milestone, but that seemed unlikely the way South Adams was dominating play against the Indians. Macy, who recently committed to Lake Land in Illinois, had no intention of waiting until Thursday’s season finale to get the big one.
“She is such a joy to coach,” said head coach Ashley Buckingham after the win of Pries. “She is competitive, coachable and a great leader.”
Earlier this season, Pries achieved 1000 career digs, but the milestone came in the junior high gym. Ironically, her sister, Peyton, got her 1000th point in basketball in the same place, but the Pries family was finally able to celebrate in the splendor of the StarDome this time.
“This season she (Pries) has been a consistent rock for our team both offensively and defensively and I am thrilled that she was able to reach both 1000 milestones this season,” said Buckingham.
Along with her kills, Pries also had four aces and six digs. Reagan Bollenbacher had nine kills for the Starfires.
Also with a great night was Reagan Beitler with five aces, four digs, three kills and ten assists.
South Adams will finish off the regular season with the final home match of the year against Delta Thursday.
“As a team we are looking forward to sectional week and having more opportunities to give our best on the court.”
The Starfires seem to be on a collision course for a rubber match in the sectional finals against Adams Central. The two teams have split their season series so far at 1-1. Next Saturday’s sectional championship at Bluffton will be broadcast live on 92.7 FM, WZBD.
