Setting a goal to raise money for cancer research, the Bellmont Braves altered their look but did not change their style Thursday night, beating a very good Leo team (15-5) in straight sets with consistent play and a strong service game, 25-13, 25-13, 25-14.

Head coach Craig Krull addressed the crowd ahead of the start of the match, explaining the mentality behind his program’s decision to get behind the cause and don pink for the match. The girls chose pink ribbons for their hair and the always-rowdy Bellmont student section joined in with a “pink-out.”

The Braves were effective and efficient, keeping the rallies short and taking advantage of their superior hitting attack all night long as they moved to 3-0 in the NE8 with the win over the Lions.

Delaney Lawson and MK Scheumann each had nine kills. Lawson had two solo blocks up front and Scheumann had a good night defensively with 11 digs. Scheumann also had two aces and a solo block herself.

Hailey Cole was the team’s most effective scorer, as usual, picking her spots for surefire points. She was six of eight on kill attempts and had the set on 22 kills of her teammates. Cole also added seven digs and a pair of aces as she continues to improve her service game this season.

Jackie Sutter had five kills and three digs.

Krull was also able to rotate more players in from his bench in front of the home crowd and was rewarded with kills by Kaydance Lose, Syd Schultz and Kamryn Jarvis.
The 3-0 win continued the weeknight dominance of the Braves, who have only dropped one single set in a weeknight match, that coming in a 3-1 win over Homestead.
The team’s season is set to end with four more NE8 matches, with the next one being the final home match of the season. The team will face a potential sectional opponent when they host rival Norwell Tuesday.
