Mary Kate Scheumann dominated the Bishop Dwenger Saints Thursday night at home, allowing just two hits as the Braves won 10-0 after finishing their game with Huntington North to begin the night.
Needing just two outs to win the NE8 contest from last Friday, the Huntington North Vikings got off the bus, threw four pitches and went back home, finishing off the game that had been paused because of rain for six days.
Shaking off that loss and focusing on the fresh start against an old rival in Dwenger, the Braves got great pitching from Scheumann, who allowed just three baserunners all night on two hits and a walk on her way to another victory.Â
Bellmont put two on in the second inning with singles by Makenzie Mankey and Ella Franze, but couldn’t push them across.
Dwenger got both hits to lead off the third, but Scheumann countered with three straight outs to end the threat.
In the bottom of the third, Sami Christen singled and Scheumann moved her to third with a hit to left, setting up Piper Baker, who doubled to left to bring both runners home.
After Taylor Bauer singled to put runners at the corners, Baker was out at home trying to advance on Mankey’s ground ball to third.
Aaliyah Faurote tripled in the fourth and came home on a sacrifice fly by Emily Bleke to left to make it 3-0.
Three straight doubles by Scheumann, Bauer and Mankey made it 5-0 and Jill Wemhoff added another with a base hit.
The game ended in exciting fashion in the bottom of the sixth when Christen and Scheumann each singled to lead off the inning. Christen scored on the second hit of the night by Baker, bringing up Taylor Bauer with two on.
Bauer hit her third home run of the year, a line drive to center field to trigger the run rule and end the night, sending the home fans away with a smile.Â
