Peyton Pries’s home run in the fourth inning gave the South Adams Starfires a lead they would never relinquish as they went on the road to take down Homestead, 3-1.Â
Gracy Bixler was outstanding in the circle for the Stars, working the first six innings without allowing a run and striking out five. While she did issue seven walks, including one in the bottom of the seventh, Bixler was saved by Pries herself, with the senior coming on in relief to get the last two batters to pop up to finish off the Spartans.
The home run for Pries came as the first batter of the fourth inning and acted as the only run scored in the game until the top of the lineup came up for South Adams in the top of the sixth. That’s when Macy Pries got her only hit of the game, a single to center. Bekah Patterson followed that up with another base hit to right, giving Macy the perfect opportunity to go first-to-third. Peyton Pries belted one into the outfield with plenty of space for Macy to tag up and score and make it 2-0.Â
For an extra insurance run, Sofia Schwartz singled to right and knocked in Patterson, who tagged up and went to third on the play at the plate to get Macy Pries.
The Starfires had eight hits in the game, with two coming from Reagan Beitler. Homestead also had eight hits, with leadoff hitter Libby Minobe the only Spartan with multiple base knocks.
South Adams, now 4-4 on the year, will play Bluffton at home Thursday.
