The Bellmont Braves came as close to a win as they’ve been in 25 games (13-12 loss to Huntington North in 2023), matching the Argylls of Madison-Grant with two touchdowns, but ultimately falling in defeat, 16-12.
Coach Blake Blaker’s team led for much of the contest after Henry Faurote made his first touch of a varsity football a touchdown to Mason White on a halfback pass from 50 yards out. A missed extra point left the Braves with a 6-0 lead as excitement built.
That 6-0 lead went all the way into halftime, with the visitors gaining confidence as each minute passed.
Three minutes into the second half, the Argylls finally got on the scoreboard, with Harry Brooks scoring from five yards out. The home team went for two and converted for an 8-6 lead.
A nice catch by Cole Barger, who led the Braves with four catches for 128 yards, on third down moved the chains on the ensuing Bellmont drive, but a sack and a tackle for loss hampered the effort to answer with a score. Coach Blaker called again for the halfback pass, but Henry Faurote’s attempt was broken up downfield and Madison-Grant got the ball back.
Another TD and two-point conversion in the fourth quarter put Madison-Grant up ten points, but Bellmont did get on the board one last time. Charlie Faurote hit three consecutive passes to three different receivers, with the final catch coming from Oliver Faurote for a 29-yard score.
Charlie Faurote finished the night unofficially with 243 yards in the air on 13 of 23 passing. Henry Faurote was 1 of 2 for 50 yards.
Bellmont had 281 yards of total offense. Madison-Grant had 214 yards rushing, while Bellmont finished with negative yardage on the ground.
