LA FONTAINE – South Adams dominated from start to finish Friday in a 70-7 whooping of the Southwood Knights, advancing the Starfires to the sectional championship game next week.
Five different Stars ran for a touchdown and Will Patterson and Wes Summersett both caught a pair of touchdown catches for an all-around great night for the Starfire offense.
Zaden Baumer was 7 of 14 for 249 yards and four TDs before giving way to Trevor Summersett and Memphis Torre in mop-up, running-clock duty.
The Stars only had to punt once, and it was perhaps the most spectacular play of the game for the winning team. Wes Summersett took a bad snap, evaded two or three would-be tacklers and launched a rugby-style punt that was absolutely blasted into the night, taking a Starfire bounce for a 60-yard kick inside the Southwood 20.
The Starfire defense allowed next to nothing throughout the night. The longest play allowed was a 12-yard run by Kaidan Valdez. It accounted for 29% of the offense for the team.
Along with his offense and the outstanding punt, Summersett also led the team in tackles with seven solos (and four assists). He added four tackles for loss and a spectacular upper-cut forced fumble that popped the ball up ten feet in the air.
Gabe Steiner and Tristin Ehr each had six total tackles and a TFL.
South Adams will host Fremont for the sectional title next week.
