Calvin Seitz won his second consecutive individual cross country title and this year there was no need for a photo finish.
Seitz, who shares a hometown and alma mater with the great Larry Bird, won Saturday’s boys’ championship 5K by a whopping 26 seconds, one year after beating Noah Bontrager at the line for the title. He ran an incredible 14:34, 27 seconds faster than last year’s winning time.
Jack Wilbourne of Signature was second with a time that was better than Seitz’s 2025 win, and Samuel Sweet led the Carroll Chargers to the state team title with his third-place time of 15:00.
Sweet’s teammate, Kai Feasel, was just .8 seconds behind him in fourth.
The Chargers won comfortably over Carmel, winning by 39 points. Homestead finished a strong fifth and Concordia Lutheran were 14th.
Bellmont freshman Emmett Glenn capped off his ninth-grade season with a time of 16:54, good enough for 204th place in a field of 250 runners.
Glenn entered October without having ever cracked the 16s and he finished October running in the state meet after running five consecutive Saturday 5Ks at 16-something.
Concordia’s Daphne Weller (shown below) won the girls’ race by 14 seconds, while Lake Central won the team race.
Bluffton was represented by Abigail and Erin Ramseyer (shown below). Abigail had an exceptional race and finished 26th overall in 18:06.5.
