BERNE – An ongoing investigation into the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material led to the arrest of a Berne man Thursday, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Victor Ramon Gameros Becerra was taken into custody after investigators executed a search warrant and later stopped his vehicle with assistance from the Berne Police Department.
The investigation began when Detective Ty Hanni of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, a member of the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators used that information to identify a suspect and obtain a search warrant.

During the search, law enforcement officers collected several electronic devices that investigators believe may contain evidence related to the case. Authorities said the devices will undergo further examination as the investigation continues.
Following an interview with detectives, Gameros Becerra was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of child sexual abuse material. He was also charged with driving without ever having been issued a valid driver’s license.
Investigators said the case remains active, and additional charges could be requested after forensic analysis of the seized evidence is completed. Any formal charges will be reviewed and filed, if appropriate, by the Adams County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sheriff Dan Mawhorr said the investigation was the result of cooperation among several law enforcement agencies and child protection organizations. Assisting the Adams County Sheriff’s Office were the Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Child Services, Decatur Police Department and Berne Police Department. The investigation also received support from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are merely allegations, and Gameros Becerra is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
