Whitko pitching issued a whopping twelve runs and hit seven batters as they fell victim to one of the more bizarre box scores of the year, falling 15-2 to South Adams in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader, despite allowing just two hits.
In twelve days, the two teams will do it all over again in the sectional opener.
The pace of the game, excruciating at times, was even odder in that two of the frames were scoreless in the 4.5-inning game. The Stars scored seven in the first and eight more in the third to earn a split after dropping the first game, 6-2.

Much in contrast to the later game, Daton Day was excellent for Whitko and one would have to believe that it will be Day getting the ball for the sectional rematch. He struck out four and walked just one, allowing five hits. Quite remarkable, especially given how the second game went, was his pitch count of just 78 for the complete game victory.
Derek Weaver struck out ten batters in his five innings of work, getting the start opposite of Day. While he allowed just five hits, he was charged with six runs and took the loss.
Derek McKean threw the final two innings and did not allow a run.
Haden Meyer had the only RBI for South Adams in the opener.

McKean did not have an official at-bat in the second game, being hit by a pitch and drawing three walks. He scored twice.
Sty Pyle doubled and was hit by a pitch. He also stole a base.
Kade Sprunger was excellent in the starting role, striking out six in four innings of work.
Zaden Baumer saw out the game with a scoreless, clean top of the fifth.
Brendon Sprunger also reached base four times without an official at-bat.
