NEW HAVEN – There was no way Myla Ellenberger was going to let the opportunity pass by.

With two runners on and one out in a scoreless game in the 7th inning Tuesday, Ellenberger walked up to the plate, exhausted from six innings of pitching and a winless season for the Adams Central Flying Jets.

Her double to left on a 2-1 count broke the deadlock and Ellenberger gave herself a lead, which she used to hand the team their first win of the season, beating the New Haven Bulldogs on the road, 3-0.

Ellenberger and Jencee Foster both scored later in that seventh inning on a hit by Andrea Isch to create a three-run cushion, but one run would have been plenty.

The Bulldogs put the first two batters on base in the bottom of the seventh, but Ellenberger got a huge strikeout, one of just two on her night. She then retired the next two batters to complete the shutout and the victory.

The hit by New Haven in the seventh was just their third in the game off Ellenberger, who also walked three in her shutout and complete game victory.

The Jets, on the other hand, had all kinds of chances. They pounded out ten hits in the game but simply could not come up with the key hit until Ellenberger came to bat in the seventh. Adams Central had a hit in six of the seven innings Tuesday night.

New Haven starter Kaley Evans made up for those ten hits with nine strikeouts, stranding runners over and over at second base. Evans did not walk a batter.

Isch had a pair of singles, as did Foster in the game for the Jets.
The Jets, who have faced some pretty lopsided losses this year, are now 1-9. They’ll play three games on the road between Thursday and Saturday, with Thursday’s game being against rival South Adams.
