Coach Randy Hisner’s Bellmont Braves captured the top two individual spots and the team title in Saturday’s boys race in Spencerville in the Buckeye State, beating out six other Ohio schools for the trophy.
On the girls’ side, the Braves had a total of six career bests on a great day for a 5K for coach Risch’s team.
Emmett Glenn finished eight seconds ahead of teammate Frank Heimann, marking the closest Heimann has been to his good friend so far this season in a 5K. Heimann was just six seconds off his career mark, set last week at Manchester.
The Braves were without senior Gavin Braun, who was away with the soccer team, but the rest of the team stepped up. Hudson Krull ran a 19:14, likely sparked by his stirring halftime cheerleading performance at the PowderPuff game the day before. Krull serves as one of the senior leaders on the team, along with Logan Whitacre (shown below).
Some of the JV runners for Bellmont also had outstanding times. Trent Huser (shown below) cut 77 seconds from his career best and Brock Scherry also set a career mark. New PRs were also set by Malachi Sparks, Blake Metzger (shown below, back), Michael Penrod and Ben Goble.
For the girls, it was three Bellmont freshmen making big gains in their times. Bristol Scherry led the team in 23 minutes flat, cutting 41 seconds from her previous career best back in the heat of the early season.
Elle Garcia also set a new career mark, going 18 seconds better than her previous PR and dropping below the 25-minute mark. Classmate Addyson Fennig dropped over a minute in her 5K.
Senior Bridget Juengel also made a huge jump, trimming 22 seconds from her time to get below 24 minutes for the first time in her career.
The Braves also got career times from Makenna Rich and Journy Mann in the JV race. Mann cut an impressive four minutes and ten seconds from her last 5K attempt.
