We have been spoiled over the last decade with excellent local high school softball teams with high success rates in the postseason. Several teams in the area have their eyes on playing into June.
WZBD.com takes a look at the coming week and the upcoming sectionals here:
HERITAGE PATRIOTS (12-6 OVERALL) (3-0 in ACAC)
Heritage split a doubleheader Saturday against Norwell, winning the game thrown by Danica Fuller in extra innings, 6-5, and falling 14-3 when Danica started at shortstop. The contrast in the two games speaks loudly about the importance of their senior star.
They face a decent test Monday night at Garrett and then two good ACAC teams on Tuesday (vs. Bluffton) and Thursday (At Jay County).

Despite the lopsided loss to Norwell in one of the games Saturday, Heritage are likely the favorites for the local sectional with Fuller in the circle.
Heritage’s Opening Sectional Opponent: Winner of Bellmont (6-9) & Norwell (11-6) on May 28th at 5:30 p.m. at Norwell

BELLMONT BRAVES (6-9 OVERALL) (1-3 in NE8)
The Braves enjoyed the weekend off because of Prom, but they’ll play three straight to open the week. Two home NE8 games could put the team back at .500 in the conference.
Bellmont will also welcome the return of their ace, Bella Ashley, after she missed a game last week against Huntington North.

Bellmont’s Opening Sectional Opponent: Norwell (11-6) on May 26th at 1 p.m. at Norwell

SOUTH ADAMS STARFIRES (14-4 OVERALL) (3-1 in ACAC)
South Adams won 13-3 against Manchester in the opening game Saturday morning, but dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Garrett in the afternoon.
Bekah Patterson finished 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs, while also scoring four times to lead the Stars in victory.

The game was tied 3-3 after 4.5 innings, when the Starfires took charge. Shelby Weigel pitched the first four innings, then Addie Baker shut down the Squires with two shutout innings.
In the 1-0 loss to Garrett, Baker allowed just three hits and struck out 14. Unfortunately, the Stars only had two hits themselves.

South Adams will attempt to stay in the ACAC title hunt with a huge showdown against Woodlan Tuesday before playing at AC Thursday.
South Adams’ Opening Sectional Opponent: Adams Central (1-10) on May 26th at 3 p.m. at South Adams

ADAMS CENTRAL FLYING JETS (1-10 OVERALL) (1-4 in ACAC)
The Jets have just flat out struggled all season long, outside of the batting heroics of Melina Peralez. A lack of varsity-level pitching has resulted in mostly lopsided, shortened losses so far in 2025.
Adams Central dropped both games over the weekend, but they were competitive with Goshen in a 12-10 loss Saturday. Addy Jordon threw four innings and allowed five runs in relief, while both Baylee Smith and Izzy Isch hit home runs.
