
Richard L. Hirschy, 86, of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at his residence. He was born on November 29, 1939, in Berne, IN, the son of Noah and Melvina (Beer) Hirschy. On August 30, 1959, Richard married Inez Merriman.
He was a member of WestSide Community Church, formerly Monroe United Brethren Church.
Richard served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a lifelong farmer and was the former owner of Moser Farm Store. He also worked at T.S.C. for 10 years and volunteered his time for several years, serving on the Adams County Credit Union board.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Inez Hirschy of Monroe, IN; 3 sons, Lennie Hirschy of Monroe, IN, Dary (Rhoda) Hirschy of Decatur, IN, Rick (Kim) Hirschy of Monroe, IN; 2 sisters, Carolyn Girod of Decatur, IN, Helen (Larry) Funk of Mesa, AZ; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hirschy of Huntington, IN; a brother-in-law, Wayne Byerly of Decatur, IN; 5 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Byerly & Florine Smith; a brother, Paul Hirschy.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at WestSide Community Church, in Monroe, IN, with visitation prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Pastor Josh McKeown and Pastor Chris Hirschy will be officiating and burial will be in Ray Cemetery.
