Adams Central wrapped up the regular season in girls’ basketball Wednesday and Thursday night with a pair of close losses to finish the regular season 5-16 heading into next week’s sectional.
Wednesday’s loss came at home to Marion, 58-50. The Giants, who compete in 3A, are now 10-13. They’ll play Norwell next week in the sectional.
Thursday’s came to a very good Blackhawk team and the Jets fell just short on the road, 61-57.
Despite the losses, which paired with Tuesday’s loss at Concordia gave the Jets’ three straight Ls to finish the regular season, coach Rob Earl was pleased with the week as preparation for what will be a difficult game against Luers in the Bluffton sectional Tuesday.
“The girls balled out with three games in four days,” coach Earl told WZBD.com Friday. “This Blackhawk team beat us by 30 back in January and tonight we lose by four.”
Ava Stafford had herself a game Thursday, especially in the first half. She finished with 29 points, but 22 of them came in the first half. The Jets led 18-9 after the first quarter.
“We are going in the right direction and if we keep going, we will beat Bishop Luers on Tuesday in the first round of sectional.”
Basketball fans can hear that game on 92.7 FM, along with all the other games for teams in Z-Land all week long.
