Decatur City Council has once again made a donation to a partner in Berne.
After Assistant Superintendent Brad Roe of the building/zoning department praised Neighborlink Adams County for its work in Decatur, council approved Roe’s request for a $5,000 donation to the group.
Council had donated the same amount last year.
“They do a ton for us,” Roe told council. “For no fee, they will bring in dumpsters to help us. A lot of people don’t have the means to pay for a dumpster.”
The building/zoning department handles code enforcement issues in Decatur, and often helps residents bring repairs to a house, yard cleanup, etc.
Neighborlink Adams County is a volunteer network that people can use to get help with problems that they are unable to take care of themselves.
It is based in Berne, operated by Zane Martens and his staff.
Reasons people need help may be due to age, financial limitations, health, and the like.
Neighborlink Adams County notes on its website that projects its assists might include repairs around a home, cleaning up someone’s yard, removing snow, etc.
“Since 2018, our mission has remained the same: to provide practical expressions of God’s love to our neighbors in need,” the website says. “Christ’s love for us compels us to love Him; His love for people motivates us to love our neighbors well. By serving others, we believe we are fulfilling this mission as Christ intended.”
The local chapter, the founder of one of many now across the nation, subsists solely on donations.
People seeking help can sign up on the website, as can those wishing to volunteer to help can also sign up on the website. Look for the “I need help” and “I can help” tabs.
