Rain put a major damper on the Hubie Ashcraft Band’s annual appearance on the Madison St Plaza Thursday night, ending the show shortly after it got started.
The popular band took the stage at 6 p.m. before a huge crowd, got in a few numbers, then shut down at 6:47, Ashcraft citing “public safety” with rain on the way.

At the start, the plaza was filled with people for the Decatur Chamber’s second concert of the season, amid temperatures in the 80s but dark clouds looming overhead.
Fortunately, the first young performer added to the bill, Alexis Lamons, performed prior to the Ashcraft band taking the stage. The 19-year-old Bellmont grad sang three songs to the delight of the early arrivals.
Next up on the schedule is the Journey tribute band, E5C4P3. They will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.
As always, there will be no admission charge, with food and adult beverages (furnished by the Mirage) available.
