The fourth session of free music instruction offered to Adams County students by the Connor Brite’s Wildflowers program has its largest group yet!
A total of 19 young people are involved in the June start to the latest edition of the program.
The program is funded in part by the annual Wildflowers celebration which is set to begin at 5 p.m. this Saturday on the Madison St. Plaza.
The music program offers free introductory lessons for four months in drums, guitar and keyboard to all Adams County students in grades 4 through 12.
The sessions are given in a Wildflowers room in the MERIT Center, former Northwest School.
Volunteer instructors are: Sydney Sanderson (guitar), Debbie Christian (keyboard), Curt Rash (drums) and Teri Morningstar (guitar and keyboard).
CELEBRATION: The Wildflowers celebration is held each year to honor the memory of Connor Brite, one of three local victims of a tragic traffic crash, and to raise funds to support the music program.
Saturday’s event will feature live music, food, adult beverages, and more, including the sale of special Wildflowers T-shirts ($15).
T-shirts are available now online at the Connor Brite Wildflowers website: www.cjbwildflowers.com They will be picked up at the concert.
This year’s shirt features blue and gold colors, reflecting Connor’s love of Notre Dame.
Music will be provided by the School of Rock (5-6:30), Penny Drip (6:45-7:45), and the band Decades 8-11). In addition, two students of the free lessons program will perform.
Among food vendors will be the Decatur Optimist Club, Adams Post 43 of the American Legion, and the Itacate food truck. Adult beverages will be offered by 2 Pour Guys.
The event will be held rain or shine, organizers said, with Riverside Center as a backup site.
