The Adams County Community Foundation recently announced a grant that will see the City of Decatur, and by extension, the Mayor’s Youth Council, receive an iPad for use by students on the council.
The Mayor’s Youth Council is a committee of high school students that are trying to get people more involved in the Decatur community. In their efforts to rally people to become more involved, the youth council will be using an iPad, purchased with ACCF grant funds, to record “Life Skills” lessons, as well as boost awareness of town events and the impact the council has on putting these events on.
Mayor’s Youth Council Advisor, Jamie Gephart, expressed appreciation to the ACCF for this support, noting that the Decatur Mayor’s Youth Council is open to freshmen through seniors at Bellmont High School and has open enrollment starting with each school year. They have been involved in Downtown Decatur Days, the Golf Cart Parade, a Beautification Program, and some members have even performed in the downtown Summer Concert Series.
These students share their thoughts on what they would like to see in Decatur, what they like and what can be improved on.
Jim Selking, ACCF grants committee member, added that the ACCF is pleased to provide this support to help create more opportunities for the Mayor’s Youth Council and to promote the community.
This ACCF grant was made possible through unrestricted fund sponsored by the Daniel Niblick family Community Enrichment Fund.
