An early 4-0 lead in the first inning for Blackford proved too big of a deficit for the Adams Central Jets to overcome in their final home game of the season as they fell to the Bruins 6-5 Thursday night despite an excellent night on the mound for Ethan Funk
The Jets played as many seniors as they could to start the game and Ryan Tester was hit for four runs in his only inning of work before being replaced by Funk, who went the rest of the way and allowed just two unearned runs.
Trevor Currie doubled to knock in the first AC run in the bottom of the first, then scored on a double steal to cut the lead to 4-2.
Adams Central scored two more in the third with some good hitting by Tester, whose run tied the game up at 4-4 after three innings.
The decisive run of the ballgame, however, came in the top of the fifth from an infield error on a ground ball by the leadoff hitter, aided by a balk call.
Funk finished with six innings pitched and was handed the tough-luck loss, allowing five hits and striking out eight.
The two teams could meet next Saturday in the sectional semifinal if they both win in Thursday’s openers.
