Three hits for the No. 3 hitter.
That’s what the Adams Central Jets got at Parkway from Trevor Currie Monday as the team was lucky enough to travel far enough east to avoid the heavy rains that called off the rest of the local ball slate.
Coach Foster’s team fell behind early after the Ohio hosts scored four times in the bottom of the first inning, prompting an appearance by Lawson Deathe to get the last out of the first and limit the damage. He got a pop up after two pitches to stop the Panther rally.
Parkway got themselves into trouble with consecutive one-out walks in the top of the third. Ethan Funk bunted the two runners over and Trevor Currie bashed them in with a base hit to center. Ryan Tester made up for his poor start on the mound with an RBI single to cut the Parkway lead to one run.
Parkway got one run back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a couple of AC errors, but Deathe worked around a couple of hit batsmen to get out of the inning.
Another pair of walks issued by Parkway pitching gave the Jets the opportunity to bunt two runners into scoring position. This time, though, Keegan Combs bunted for a base hit to load the bases. RBIs by Cade Van De Weg and Ethan Funk gave Adams Central their first lead.
Deathe was relieved by Jamison Roach in the fourth after a couple of two-out walks, but Roach had the same start Deathe had and got a pop up to get out of a jam.
For the third different time in the first five innings, the Jets put two runners on base with walks, then bunted them over, again this time with a bunt single by Keegan Bluhm.
That loaded the bases for Keegan Combs, who took a couple of strikes to get to an 0-2 count. As the rain began to fall, coach Foster decided to get aggressive and pull off the delayed steal. The play worked, and all three runners advanced, with Dakota Perry stealing home to give the Jets a 7-5 lead.
Another pitch was never thrown and the rain gave the Jets a 7-5 victory ahead of a big showdown with the Bluffton Tigers at home Tuesday night.
