Rome was not built in a day and you don’t have to tell that to Homestead head coach Andy Oberlin twice.
Oberlin’s quest to build Homestead into a local wrestling power has slowly been gaining steam since he took over the program.
This winter, he boasts a roster of 50 high school wrestlers. With 100 kids expected to be on the mat for the school’s two middle school teams, there is certainly momentum building.
In his first year as head coach, Oberlin finished a respectable 17-10, but the past two years have seen him tally 33 wins against just seven losses. Each of the last two seasons for the Spartans have included hoisting a sectional trophy. The program had only won one sectional in the decade prior to Oberlin’s arrival.
The team will get an early test against Carroll before heading to the Westfield Duals to see how they match up with other top teams.
