Resurfacing of a large number of Decatur streets is expected to begin next week, Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its latest meeting.
Brooks Construction is nearly finished revamping 52 handicapped ramps, and then will begin milling of streets next week, Gilbert said.
Milling is the process of removing the top layer of asphalt to a specified and even depth without disturbing the underlying subbase. This allows new asphalt to be laid down without increasing the height of the street.

Fourteen streets and six alleys will be done.
The project has a total construction cost of $1,052,685.26, most of which is funded by the latest state Community Crossings grant acquired by the city.
Decatur’s cost via a matching grant is $263,171.30.
Meanwhile, the city is putting forth $235,365 to pave six alley and two streets.
Following are the streets to be paved through the CC grant:
Mercer Ave. from 5 Points to Adams Memorial Hospital.
N. 16th St. from Monroe to Nuttman.
Westlawn Dr. from Monroe to the dead-end.
Stevenson St. from Elm to Mercer.
S. Fifth St. from Adams to Patterson.
N. Ninth St. from Nuttman to Dayton Ave.
17th St. from Monroe to Nuttman.
John St. from Fifth to Third.
Fifth St. from Lopez Lane to Elm.
5th St. from Elm to dead-end.
Monmouth Rd. from Second St. to Piqua Road.
