Decatur Main Street, coming off a hugely successful Downtown Decatur Days, has asked for and received a place in the City of Decatur’s budget for next year.
Main Street President Max Miller and Executive Director Taylor Braun made their pitch to city council at its recent meeting and were readily rewarded.
For the second consecutive year, council agreed to a $25,000 donation to the organization.
In addition, it awarded Main Street $25,000 to once again administer and fund the city’s facade program.
“City funding helps us strengthen downtown businesses, improve the appearance of our community, attract visitors and investment, and build partnerships with property owners, volunteers and local organizations,” Miller told council.
Decatur Main Street earlier this year hired Braun as its executive director, the first paid position for the volunteer force.
“With a full-time executive director, Main Street is better positioned to plan projects, pursue grants, support businesses and carry out long-term downtown development,” Miller said.
Decatur Main Street says it is “dedicated to strengthening and revitalizing Downtown Decatur by supporting local businesses, preserving our historic character, fostering economic growth, and creating a vibrant downtown for everyone to live, work, shop, and gather.”
The organization began in 2014.
Its budget this year is $75,000, which includes the two city donations for 2026.
