Grunge music came to the Madison St. Plaza in Decatur for the first time Thursday, and a couple of guys on the sound board also performed admirably.
Grunge, the Sounds of Seattle, brought out an average-sized crowd, including more than a few enthusiastic fans of the music which combines heavy punk and heavy metal genres.
The concert covered over two hours, thanks to Phil McDonald and Chris Carter, the two guys handling the sound board.
As the band was getting ready to return after a short break, a loud “boom!” shut down the sound system.
McDonald – a regular on the board at the Decatur Chamber’s concerts – and Carter began scrambling. They scurried back and forth to the stage and the sound board, and to plaza’s electrical board, numerous times, grabbing tools and at one point a lengthy extension cord.
After 20-25 minutes and what was called the use of “a band aid,” their efforts paid off as Grunge began cranking out the music once again.
Few, if any, of the concert-goers left during the long break, no doubt preferring instead to just stay in place and enjoy the fine weather.
The five-man band featured the music of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and other legendary Seattle bands.
The concert was the eighth of the season, with five remaining.
