With many cases these days, a fundraising effort can be turned into a scam, but here’s one that is NOT…WZBD’s Ed Thurman reports a fundraising effort by the local Sheriff’s Department is completely legitimate, as he spoke with Sheriff Dan Mawhorr…
Sheriff Mawhorr says if you have any questions regarding such a fundraising effort, please call the Adams County Sheriff’s Department to get more details.
In other news coming from the Commissioner’s meeting on Tuesday, if you have business to do at the Adams County Government Center in the near future, please be aware the the building’s elevator will be closed for nearly a month. The elevator at the Government Center is being replaced and will close down next Monday, May 15. It’s expected to take up to four weeks for the new elevator to be installed and open to the public. Anyone who will have business to conduct at the Government Center during that time is encouraged to call the office that you’ll be dealing with to make special arrangements so you can take care of your business. Otherwise, you’ll have to use the stairs at the building while the new elevator is being installed. County officials say the new elevator should be operational by June 9.
Also during the meeting Tuesday, County Commissioners completed the sale of land that has been part of the Golden Acres County Farm since the 1870’s. The excess land was sold in parcels last month during a public auction, but one parcel did not meet the minimum bid price and was held in limbo until yesterday. The Commissioners decided there were several valid reasons for the parcel to not meet the expected sale price, so they approved the sale at just over $12,000 an acre. The total sale of the land brought in just under two million dollars to the county. County officials plan to deposit the proceeds from the land sale into the county coffers to help with several large planned projects in the future.
