Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday on N. Winchester Rd. as part of Decatur’s huge infrastructure project to replace lead service lines and aged water mains.
The N. Winchester Rd. work will involve replacement of a water main.
Another part of the project began last week on Jefferson St. in Decatur. That effort involves replacing water mains as well as removing lead service lines.
A city announcement said residents and motorists in the N. Winchester Rd. area should expect construction activity, possible traffic delays, and temporary water shut-offs as work progresses.

On Jefferson St., work is taking place between Second and Seventh streets.
Street closures and traffic restrictions will be part of the work, the announcement said, and there will be temporary impacts to access in active construction areas.

Some temporary water shut-offs could occur.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as these important improvements are completed,” the city announcement said. “These projects are part of the City’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve Decatur’s water infrastructure.”
The federally-mandated, $17 million project is being funded through 35-year bonds and it designed to replace approximately1,000 lead service lines an d more than a thousand water mains.
The project is likely to continue into net summer.
