It was a game of crooked numbers Tuesday night when South Adams traveled to Heritage to take on the Patriots as runs were only scored in three different half innings, but it was the two runs by the home team that made the difference in the ACAC game.Â
Grace Guenthner hit a walk-off home run after leadoff hitter Danica Fuller reached base to steal the game away from the Starfires and Peyton Pries, who looked destined to be the star of the game with a giant three-run home run of her own and a complete game nearly wrapped up when the final ball was thrown.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, Pries had allowed just two runs, one earned. She gave her team the lead in the top of the fifth with her bomb to center, which came with two outs, after sister Macy Pries and Kenzie Neuenschwander had reached.
Danica Fuller, the sometimes ambidextrous pitcher for the Patriots, struck out 13 and did not allow an earned run. An error prior to Peyton Pries’s at-bat allowed her to come up with the runners on in the fifth. Fuller also had two hits and reached on a walk.
